2025 Skills

C1RSVP shall produce 40 mini research projects and papers on the top 10 skills that will be in demand by employers when recruiting new members of their teams. The skills chosen were those identified by the World Economic Forum report "The Future of Jobs" (January 2016).

We have tried to define each of the 10 skills to help focus discussions and reading by participants in our project activities.

1. Complex Problem Solving

"Complex problem solving skills are the developed capacities used to solve novel, ill-defined problems in complex, real-world settings..."


2. Critical Thinking

"...refers to the ability to analyze information objectively and make a reasoned judgment. Critical thinking involves the evaluation of sources such as data, facts, observable phenomenon, and research findings."


3. Creativity

"Creativity is the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality. Creativity is characterised by theability to perceive the world in new ways, to find hidden patterns, to make connections between seemingly unrelated phenomena, and to generate solutions."


4. People Management

"People management skills can include communication, leadership, delegation, motivation, training and even performance feedback."



5. Coordinating with Others

"Co-ordination is the unification, integration, synchronization of the efforts of group members so as to provide unity of action in the pursuit of common goals. It is a hidden force which binds all the other functions of management."


6. Emotional Intelligence

"In practical terms, this means being aware that emotions can drive our behavior and impact people (positively and negatively), and learning how to manage those emotions – both our own and others – especially when we are under pressure."


7. Judgement and Decision Making

"Judgment in the context of decision making could be summarized as:

  1. The ability or capacity to decide
  2. The thought processes used to decide
  3. The decision outcome that comes from exercising judgment"


8. Service Orientation

"...traits of a service oriented person – they have excellent communication, problem solving, and numeracy skills. Professionals who are service oriented thrive in service industries, such as hospitality."


9. Negotiation

"People need negotiation skills to secure better deals. These deals can be in both your business and personal life. Negotiating skills include methods of:

  • Communicating
  • Persuading and influencing
  • Planning
  • Strategizing
  • Employing tactics, techniques, tools, systems, processes, and teamwork"


10. Cognitive Flexibility

"Cognitive flexibility has been described as the mental ability to switch between thinking about two different concepts, and to think about multiple concepts simultaneously."
